With more than 100 000 members SMÅA is holding the position as the largest business-owned member organization in Sweden.
We are the unemployment fund (a-kassa) for small business owners and their family members who are working in small and medium sized companies, interested in securing their income in the happening of unemployment.
Our head office is in Lycksele, Västerbotten. we also have an office in Stockholm.
All the unemployment funds are obligated to follow the same rules. These rules are decided by the Riksdag.
The board of SMÅA exclusively consists of self-employed persons.
How to apply for unemployment funds
Register
Register with the Swedish public employment service. Let them know that you are a member in SMÅA.
We will get in touch
We will receive a notice from the Swedish public employment service and then send you further information regarding the next step.
Apply
You will have to apply for funds using “Mina sidor”. Read more about the information we need below.
Case processing
We are handling all cases as soon as possible, and all cases are handled in the order that we received them. If we need more information or documentation from you, we will contact you with a specific request. If you send all the necessary information from the beginning, we will be able to make a decision in your case faster.
Report your time
The easiest way to fill out and report your activities is to use “Mina sidor”. You report one week at a time and can send in your report once the week has passed. Please note that the week should be reported in its entirety, including Saturday and Sunday.

The calculated compensation is only an estimate of what you could receive in unemployment benefits. All conditions for the right to compensation must be met, including a membership condition. We base our decision on the rules and regulations decided by the Government.

The membership fee is 159 SEK per month.
You need to be a small business owner, the spouse of a small business owner or a family member who work within small to medium sized companies with their business in Sweden.
Small to medium sized is defined to be a company with maximum 250 employees. It does not matter what line of industry you are active within, and you are welcome no matter what kind of company or partnership your business is.
The unemployment insurance consists of two parts – the basic insurance and an income-based insurance.
To receive unemployment insurance according to the basic insurance with us, you must be a member. If you are not a member of an unemployment fund, you can apply for compensation from the Alfa fund.
